Green Party Leader Polanski Calls for Change in Drugs Policy

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has advocated for drug policy reform despite never having taken drugs himself.

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has called for a fundamental change in Britain's approach to drug policy, despite stating he has "never taken a drug in my life or even drunk alcohol." Appearing on the Laura Kuenssberg show, Polanski argued that current policies push drug use "into street corners and a black market," creating greater dangers than regulated alternatives would. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer criticized Polanski as "high on drugs, soft on Putin," which the Green leader described as "disgraceful and a cheap joke." Polanski became Green Party leader in September last year, and the party has gained 130,000 new members since his election. Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham has also voiced support for drug consumption rooms like The Thistle facility in Glasgow.
